When First I Kiss

When first I kiss your sleeping lips, they wake
Unto my call and e'en before word has
Passed from them unto my ear, there is
Language spoken clear to my heart to make
It listen well. It does hear a droplet:
Your sotto voce so low it touches
My most earnest and waiting audience.
And when spoken, as the final couplet
Of the play, I respond in ovation.
And only the twice-softer than summer
Rested petal voice of your love calls clear
Throughout that adoring and most good din.
The voice of your love speaks loudly to me,
And guides me through night and day unto thee.
