27 Nazir
From the East, where nights are cool and scented
And the sands from all time flow like the waves,
I came to a green world, all forested
To learn its secrets and its dark, deep ways.
Here, I am different, my skin and my tongue
And Mecca is too far away to pray.
Fighting for a country whose King does wrong
My own. Most painful are these dark, deep ways.
Silently I watch, quietly I work.
I speak little, but eyes have much to say.
Look well within them, friend, and see my heart.
Come into them and know my dark, deep ways.
I came into this forest full of hate
And now live and follow its dark, deep ways.
