Welcome to Designs by Kate![My husband wrote the following "biography." I could never say stuff like this about myself.] Designs by Kate Renaissance clothing is designed, created and manufactured by Kate Douglas, a talented artisan who takes great pride in her quality and craftsmanship. Kate lives in Las Vegas, and has designed, manufactured and maintained the wardrobe of many of the shows on the Las Vegas "Strip," and has headed the wardrobe department for several of them. Kate has spent over 30 years in wardrobe and costuming. She was an instructor in the Theatre Dept. of both East Los Angeles Junior College and San Bernardino State. She taught costume design and creation for the City of San Bernardino as part of the Recreation Dept.'s "Central City Playhouse." She has designed and created the costumes for many dozens of plays and musicals. Kate caught the Faire bug many years ago. Her husband, Bob, sang with "The South Coast Consort", one of the wandering madrigal groups at the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Agoura. Kate kept checking out the clothing worn by the participants and faire-goers and said "I can do better than that!" She wanted her products to be clothing, not "costumes." So, let a few years pass ...... Several years ago, Kate designed her first cloak and manufactured a half-dozen to try them out. They sold out immediately. People appreciated her level of quality and her careful attention to detail. She has now designed a line of period clothing that includes shirts, pants, cloaks, capes, jerkins, doublets, chaperons, cowls, monk's ensembles and flat caps. Kate is ably assisted by her daughter, Kasey Nichols, who lives here in Las Vegas; and by Jack Blankenburg, whose beautiful doublets have become a recent addition to the catalog. Kate's husband, Bob, designed, created and maintains this website, handles promotion and correspondence, and generally gets underfoot. Please click here to see Kate's home page.
