•  andrewtp21  May 01, 2008 Very strange clip of beams of light seemingly coming out of nowhere in the night sky in Tomsk Russia. As the beams dissappear a galaxy shaped spiral of light appears and forms from above. *Note: An alternative explanation could be that it is a 3 stage rocket launch, when the boosters disengage the next stage malfunctions and spirals out of control.

Banbury continues: "It consisted initially of a green beam of light similar in color to the aurora with a mysterious rotating spiral at one end. This spiral then got bigger and bigger until it turned into a huge halo in the sky with the green beam extending down to Earth. According to press reports, this could be seen all over northern Norway and must therefore have been very high up in the atmosphere to be seen hundreds of km apart."

UPDATE:

Circumstantial evidence is mounting that the phenomenon was caused by a malfunctioning rocket, possibly an ICBM launched from a Russian submarine. A Navtex no-fly alert was issued for the White Sea on Dec. 9th, and photographers appear to have recorded the initial boost phase of a launch below the spiral (see inset). A rocket motor spinning out of control could indeed explain the spiral pattern, so this explanation seems plausible, although it has not yet been confirmed.

The failure of a new Russian intercontinental ballistic missile during testing was the cause of the spectacular, spiraling, blue lights seen early Wednesday in the skies over northern Norway, analysts said.

Russia's defence ministry said a Bulava missile was launched Wednesday by one of its nuclear submarines in the White Sea and that an unspecified failure occurred during the third stage of the launch.

UFO June 5 2010 seen up and down Australia's east coast by thousands of people.
The UFO was massive, a bright object in the sky just before dawn, it was spiral in shape and slowly moved eastward at high altitude.
It was very big, bright and very spooky.
Thousands of people in Victoria, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory and Queensland saw the UFO.

UFO seen over the Gold Coast approximately 5.55am Saturday June 5th, 2010.

I was on the beach, at the water's edge and looked to the west to see a beautiful, bright moon. Except it wasn't the moon! It was a bright light moving slowly east, towards me and surrounded by a swirling mist. The mist rotated clockwise around the bright, white light and followed it perfectly.

The light moved slowly across the sky (directly above the Coolangatta Airport) and remained silent the whole time. It disappeared in the east (seemingly disappearing into a cloud!). This UFO was witnessed by many people on the East Coast of Australia and at this stage in time has been dismissed as being space junk. See for yourself.

It was NOT the ISS (Space Station) according to it's orbit information and time. It MAY HAVE BEEN the X-37B as it's orbit passed over Australia.
 

UPDATE: June 12th, 2010. It's been one week since I filmed this video and I want to thank everyone for their comments. I think the majority of people support the explanation that it is the Falcon9 rocket, spinning and venting fuel and is thus now an IFO, not a UFO! This fuel leakage reflecting off the morning sun certainly explains the glowing, rotating mist I saw!

Also, thanks for all the views. This video made it to Number 5 most viewed this week in Australia! I really am astonished just how many people have seen it. Certainly beats my Koala video, which strangely, no one has yet claimed to be fake!!!

Finally, to answer those who asked what camera I used. I'm pleased to report it was filmed on my touch screen Sony Ericsson Aino 8MP mobile phone, using Auto settings with Night Mode. I originally started filming without Night Mode, but I could only see a white dot on the screen and quickly realized it was a waste of time. In hindsight, I'm glad I switched to Night Mode and if I had done so sooner, you would have seen a longer video! (Although I sound calm in the video, I had been fumbling around nervously trying to remember how to switch to Night Mode, so it did take some time to get my act together! If the object had been much faster I would have missed it!!!)
