Writing “Cosmic Top Secret”

By William Hamilton III

In 1988 I met UFO iconoclast John Lear.I contacted John for clues to finding evidence for the existence of a secret underground base in DulceNew Mexico as my wife and I were on vacation and Dulce was on my list to visit.I had learned from various documents and testimony that the United States government and industrial-military complex was hiding evidence of involvement with extraterrestrial entities and was attempting to reverse engineer alien technology. One CIA document I had, released on the U.S. Freedom-of-Information-Act (FOIA) stated there was a secret U.S. UFO program. My intention was to prove it by interviewing whistleblowers and investigating secret test sites such as Area 51.

The alleged recovery of a flying disk near RoswellNew Mexico in July 1947 has sparked discussions, opinions, and reports that the U.S. Army and Air Force studied the remnants of the disk, especially the methods and modes of its propulsion with the intent of "reverse engineering" the advanced technology found in the alien craft. Is it even possible to comprehend such advanced technology much less attempt to duplicate its function?

In 1989 I wrote an article titled Aliens in Dreamland based on stories coming out of Area 51 on the Nevada Test Site. This article was published in UFO Universe published by Time Beckley in New York. This article was the first to mention the story of Bob Lazar who, allegedly, was hired to work at the PapooseMountain facility designated S4 on the Nevada Test Site just a few miles south of the GroomLake complex.Shortly after writing that article and speaking to people on UFO crashes and retrievals, Tim Beckley asked me to write a book on the subject of the secret UFO program and that book was published in 1990 as Cosmic Top Secret.

Area 51, also known as GroomLake, is a secret military facility about 90 miles north of Las VegasNevadaUSA. The number refers to a 6-by-10-mile block of land, at the center of which is a large air base the government will not discuss. The site was selected in the mid-1950s for testing of the U-2 spy plane, due to its remoteness, proximity to existing facilities and presence of a dry lake bed for landings. GroomLake is America's traditional testing ground for "black budget" aircraft before they are publicly acknowledged. The facility and surrounding areas are also associated -- with varying levels of credibility -- with UFO and conspiracy stories. In 1989, Bob Lazar claimed on a Las Vegas television station that he had worked with alien spacecraft at PapooseMountain, south of Area 51. Since then, "Area 51" has become a popular symbol for the alleged U.S. Government UFO cover-up.

The book is titled after a NATO classification that I thought was appropriate to the subject. The American codeword for these top secret studies was MAJIC (military codeword) and MAGIC (civilian codeword). These classifications were supposedly instituted by MAJESTIC 12, a secret UFO study group established by President Truman in 1947.

I included references to both FOIA-released UFO documents and leaked UFO documents and questionable or debatable UFO documents that referred to any evidence that the U.S. had UFO hardware in its possession.I also attempted to show that defense contractors had been given contracts to work on reverse engineering alien technology or were contracted to make studies of gravity control for flight in the atmosphere and in space. Some of these documents have been challenged over the years, and there is no doubt that the book contains some fabricated stories as well as factual material, something that I was not experienced in sifting out at the time.I still stand behind the main thesis of the book which is that we have extraterrestrial machines or parts of machines in our possession and that we have been working on finding out how they work.

There is also an attempt to identify those government agencies, defense contractors, and scientists who were engaged in the secret U.S. UFO program.

The military agenda for recovered alien vehicles was to learn as much as possible about the technology. To do this, they had to turn to the experts in corporate America, to companies they had a long-standing relationship with, and which had the facilities to conduct studies and maintain the vow of silence on their findings.

The engineering of secret technology to satisfy DOD requests is conducted under a classified umbrella of programs and projects, the most secretive of which are known as Special Access Programs. There are even unacknowledged SAPs. This is what has been referred to as The Black World. Lockheed Skunkworks developed the U-2 and SR-71 spy planes in the Black World.

The back-engineering of alien space technology would probably rank as the deepest Black World project in terms of secrecy and security. It also carries with it a natural cloak of security -- it sounds too incredible to be true. Many would not believe it without an overwhelming presentation of evidence, and, yet the intense security surrounding these projects makes it nearly impossible to obtain that evidence. Researchers have attempted to obtain what little evidence they can from testimony, leaked documents, and direct observations of secret sites outside the security perimeters of these sites.

The New York Herald Tribune published an interesting series of articles on gravity control in November, 1955, quoting aviation experts of the day.

In the third of this series of articles, it was stated, "The current interest in America's aircraft and electronics industries in finding whether gravity can be controlled or 'cancelled-out' is not confined to imaginative young graduates of engineering and scientific schools. Some of the two industries' most experienced and highly regarded leaders today are engaged directly or deeply interested in theoretical research relating to gravity and universal gravitation. Their basic aim is eventually to build 'hardware' in the shape of planes, earth satellites, and space ships 'which can go where we want and do what we want without interference from gravity's mysterious trans-spatial pull.' “

“Control of gravity is something that men have been dreaming about for centuries. Now it appears that we are on the threshold of achieving it. Its value, to the country that first attains it, is incalculable. Our government, hoping for a technical breakthrough, has set up 46 different research projects on various aspects of gravity control. The Air Force is running 33 of these projects and the others are divided among five other agencies.

Included in the 46 government projects are experiments and research at two Air Force Laboratories (Flight Dynamics and General Physics Research), Radio Corporation of America, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa; Stevens Institute of Technology; the universities of California, Denver, Harvard, Indiana, Manchester (England), Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Purdue, Stockholm (Sweden), Syracuse, Texas, and two New York schools – Queens College and Yeshiva Graduate School of Science.”

Where are the results of all of these projects? And, what happened to the research on gravity control conducted by some of the leading aviation companies of the 1950s?

Many aircraft companies were researching the problems of anti-gravity in the fifties -- the Glen L. Martin Company, now Martin-Murietta, which has just acquired G.E. Aerospace; Bell Aircraft; General Electric; and Sperry-Rand.In fact, the Martin Company, who was prime contractor on the project Vanguard satellite, had established a subsidiary, RIAS, which had as its chief mission the investigation of gravity.

Someday I hope to have enough material to write a follow-up on my first book.I have written other books, but they were no an actual sequel to Cosmic Top Secret. New material has revealed that we may now have developed fully functional field-propelled aerospace craft from these studies and that we may have a secret space program beyond Cosmic Top Secret.
